Tomorrow, August 7, is the birthday of two people who hold great, but vastly different significance in my life.
August 7, 1942, @GarrisonKeillor was born. Since discovering Prairie Home Companion in 1980, I was both awed and inspired by his skills as a monologist and writer. He is certainly one of the driving forces who brought “The Boy on the Bureau” to fruition. I played his recitation of “The Royal Family” to my classes every year. I think my convenient remembrance of my hometown and family is a tad “Lake Wobegon-ed”. “The Royal Family” even bears some overtones to my family situation. If you ever have the chance, read it. And even better, if you have the chance to hear him tell the tale – do.
Also born August 7th – though this time in 1975 – Charlize Theron burst into the world. Charlize for several years has been included on the Fidelity Waiver Clause of my marriage. Generally not one who is drawn to blondes, I find Charlize compelling. If you got a pass, who would be your 5…?
